NATURAL STONE / NORTHERN UTAH

Shape the ground. Open the possibilities.

A wall can do more
than hold the earth.

It can make room for a garden, bring order to a slope, or connect the different levels of your property. Natural boulders add their own character to the space.

The useful work starts with your goals, the ground and a plan for water. Find the right starting point for your project.

Work with the land

Less slope.
More possibility.

Think beyond a line of stone. Consider how you want to move through the yard, where planting belongs, and what sits above the wall.

A thoughtful layout brings the wall, access and surrounding landscape together.

Before the first boulder

The right questions.
A clearer plan.

The finished wall is only part of the story. A few early decisions help define the work beneath and behind it.

  1. 01

    Start with the site

Wall dimensions, ground conditions, access and nearby structures all help shape the project.

  2. 02

    Make a plan for water

Surface runoff and drainage behind the wall need a suitable path and outlet.

  3. 03

    Put the scope in writing

Know what the quote includes, who handles required design or permits, and how the area will be left.

More questions, answered
What affects the cost of a boulder retaining wall?

Wall dimensions, access, ground conditions, excavation, material delivery and drainage all affect the scope. Ask whether the estimate includes spoil removal, engineering, permits and landscape restoration. A site-specific quote is more useful than a universal price per square foot.

Do boulder walls need drainage?

Water behind the wall and runoff on the surface both need a deliberate path. Gaps between stones do not establish that a wall has adequate drainage. The design should account for backfill, collection and a suitable outlet.

Will a retaining wall need a permit or engineering?

Requirements depend on the property’s jurisdiction, wall dimensions and site conditions. Nearby buildings, driveways and closely spaced tiers can require review even when a wall appears short. Confirm the requirements with the responsible city or county before construction.

What should I include in a project request?

Include the property location, approximate wall length and height, the purpose of the wall and any access or drainage concerns. Available plans and wide photos of the site can help with the next conversation. Exact construction dimensions should be confirmed on site.
